Lemon Meringue Tarts
Often on weekends, I spend time cooking with the kids - not only does this give me a chance to spend some time in the kitchen (yeah I know, who would have thought, right?) but it's a great bonding experience and introduces some great life skills to the kids. I have fond childhood memories of Lemon Meringue Pie being my favourite "cake" of all time, something mum would often treat me to when we were out and about, and thought it would be a great one to introduce my kids to.
The Problem With Creative Commons Attribution
Like many an amateur photographer, I use flickr, 500px and a number other websites to share my portfolio both with friends, family and acquaintances - as well as the world at large. I have no problem with people using many of my images (including the one featured above) which I why I often post these with a Creative Commons Attribution licence. The problem I have is when the images are re-used, without attribution.
My photography on show in Helsinki!
I received a message on flickr today from miirol advising me that the guest laptop at Café Soihtu in Helsinki (yes, as in Finland) is using my Morning Ritual Photoset for the wallpaper on the guest laptop at the café.
So next time you're in town (Helsinki that is), head on over to Café Suihtu (Aurorankatu 13 B 16) and check out the guest laptop - looking through their site there's plenty of tastyy treats to be had as well!
The one reason I would buy a Nikon DSLR over a Canon
Ok, so the heading may be a little misleading - but it got your attention right?
Recently I purchased some replacement lens caps for my L Series Canon lenses - not that the OEM lenscaps had anything wrong with them as such, rather that it would seem my fingers are larger than your average Japanese Canon engineer's.
jQuery Tooltips Made Easy
Inspired by a recent post on forrst.com (don't ask, I haven't got spare invites) I decided to write an easy to implement jQuery tooltip class for use with forms. A few points were raised in the comments of the original post, many of which I consider to be very relevant and have been taken into account when writing this code:
- Code to be as simple and minimal as possible.
- Tooltips to be semantically correct - this means they are NOT wrapped in label tags, but rather in spans
- Non javascript fallback to be in place (does anyone browse without it anymore?)
- Reliant on CSS for the basic styling (a personal favourite)
Melbourne Freeway Travel Times - on your iPhone
After much frustration with the lack of iPhone friendly resources to show local freeway travel times, I decided it was time to write my own. Not an iPhone application as such, but rather a "web-app" designed with an iPhone focus (although I'm told it works suitably well on android devices also).
